Referred to as the "Royal City", it is the capital of Dan-Home, the ancient Kingdom. It has one of the most impressive museums of Africa. Previously colonized by the French, Benin is a French speaking country, governed by a democratic representative republic structure. Primarily a Christain society with large swaths of Muslims and ATR (African Traditional Religion).
